  • HZ Recoil mass and Cross Secion Analysis at ILD ( LAL 09-121). For a deeper understanding of the study and the constraints on the design of the detector, one can refer to the ILD LoI.

Statistical Methods

Proposed by Marc Verderi

  • Ambiguity-Free Measurement of cos 2 beta.

Physics analyses have to deal with detector effects which distort the distribution of the data: the observed distribution of the data is not the true/generated one, and effects like bias, resolution, and acceptance have to be taken into account to describe the observed distribution. In the introduction of reference 1 a general formalism in presented. Assuming the case of a multidimensional analysis –say a 3D angular analysis- of a pure signal, only affected by acceptance effect, the multidimensional description of the acceptance -3D in our case- looks a priori needed to describe the data. If this conjecture is true, show that this multidimensional description is however not needed when fitting for the data with a maximum log-likelihood method. Please refer for example to 2. What is the big practical advantage to not having to describe the multidimensional acceptance?
