APP_01 : The Geant4-DNA project at the Physics-Biology frontier

Summary :
The Bio2 projects encompasses modeling and experimental interdisciplinary activities. Both Japan and French teams are involved in the Geant4-DNA project aiming at extending the Geant4 Monte Carlo toolkit for the modeling of early biological effects of ionising radiation at the DNA scale. In 2014, the physics models of Geant4-DNA have all been deployed to GPGPU allowing to reach impressive performance (> 200 speed gain). This porting allowed in particular a deep testing of Geant4-DNA physics models. In 2015 and 2016, the porting of new Geant4-DNA physics models as well as physico-chemistry and chemistry processes has been achieved for the first time reaching again impressive computing performance; this will significantly boost the development of Geant4-DNA based applications at the physics-biology frontier.

APP_02 : Study of biomolecular ion stability in gas-phase by two complementary approaches : a cryogenic storage ring and a device for molecular cluster irradiation

Summary :
The IPNL-RIKEN/TMU project aims to investigate by two complementary technics the fragmentation and the lifetime of excited states of biologically relevant molecules. The experimental method developed at RIKEN (Japan) uses the RICE-ring, Riken Cryogenic Electrostatic ring, and that developed at the IPNL (Lyon) uses the DIAM, Device for molecular cluster irradiation. The experiments undertaken in both laboratories will provide complementary information and a better understanding of the physical chemistry of biomolecular ions such as nucleobases or proteins.
