Mu_02 : Comet
Summary :
In the framework of the Muon Group, our common activities are devoted to the COMET experiment at J-PARC, searching for a charged lepton flavor violating (CLFV) process of muon to electron conversion
with single event sensitivity of 10-17, four orders of magnitude improvement over the current limit. The discovery of the process would bring significant physics results that either reveals or constrains new physics beyond the Standard Model. The main area of our collaboration is on software, simulation and data management, using the computing resource available at CCIN2P3. We pursue the optimization of the COMET muon stopping target, with both passive and active targets, including tracking improvement based on GENFIT2 and a knowledge transfer on simulation and tracking between COMET and g-2/EDM.
The study of an idea of the "COMET Phase III detector", initiated in Paris in the end of 2016, will also be continued.
