INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the home page of the "Toshiko Yuasa" France Japan Particle Physics Laboratory (TYL-FJPPL). Information on on-going collaborative projects involving French and Japanese research teams pursuing particle and astroparticle physics, instrumentation R&D, accelerator physics and technology and several other related topics can be found here. Support for staff exchanges and joint training initiatives for students and junior staff can be applied for on a yearly basis. A general workshop is also organised annually to bring together the teams involved. Topical workshop, schools and other special events are also sponsored both in France and Japan. Please see the details below.

2020 TYL-FJPPL / FKPPL JOINT ANNUAL WORKSHOP

The 2020 workshop will take place on May 18-20 in Nantes, France.

2020 TYL CALL FOR APPLICATIONS TO FUND STAFF EXCHANGES

The call for submission of applications and activity reports is now open.
The submission deadline is: February 14th, 2020.

2019 TYL-FJPPL YOUNG INVESTIGATOR AWARD WINNER

The winners of the 2019 TYL-FJPPL Young Investigator Award is Dr.Sviatoslav Bilokin (IPHC Strasbourg) for his innovative contribution to physics analysis and to the calorimeter of the future ILC (projects HEP-01 and HEP-07). The award was given during the TYL-FJPPL annual workshop, in Jeju, that took place in May 8-10, 2019. The ceremony included a short talk by the awardee.

2019 SUPPORT FROM FRENCH EMBASSY

Support for Japanese students:
The French Embassy in Japan calls for applications of Japanese students (grants for all levels) wishing to pursue parts of their studies in France, please check information here:

Programme Exploration Japon:
The French Embassy in Tokyo has a program providing financial support to French scientists who want to build / explore new collaborations with Japanese partners. The funding is a grant covering the cost of one round trip from France to Japan (travel and local expenses). Please see the detailed description here (in French).
Deadline for submission of applications : CLOSED (was 12 October 2018).
An equivalent program is proposed to support secondment of Japanese partners in France, please see the detailed description here (in French).

2019 SAKURA FUNDING PROGRAM PROMOTING FRENCH-JAPANESE COLLABORATION

The SAKURA program is funded by the JSPS in Japan and by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and of Education and Research in France. It provides funding for bilateral exchanges between French and Japanese teams of researchers, for up to two years. Exceptionnaly, a third year can be granted. New collaborations involving junior researchers and doctoral students have priority in the selection. The maximum amount of funding is 6000 euros/year for the French teams, and 1000000 Yen for the Japanese teams, covering exclusively travel expenses for mutual visits. RECENT EVENTS

* Ceremony of the Toshiko Yuasa Female Scientist Prize took place at Ochanomizu University on February 12th, 2020. Dr. Mika Masuzawa, researcher at KEK, Japan, was awarded the Gold medal.

  • Denis PERRET-GALLIX Memorial Symposium
KEK and Toshiko Yuasa Laboratory (TYL-FJPPL) organized a symposium to celebrate the life and work of Dr. Denis Perret-Gallix (1949-2018). The symposium took place on April 2nd, 2019 from 1:30 pm at the KEK Tsukuba campus, featuring talks dedicated to the memory of Dr. Perret-Gallix. website here.
Dr. Denis Perret-Gallix conducted various collaborations between France and KEK in high energy physics. The French-Japan Particle Physics Laboratory (FJPPL), now TYL, was established in 2006, for which Denis played a leading role.

  • Ceremony of the Toshiko Yuasa Female Scientist Prize took place at Ochanomizu University on March 4th, 2019. Dr. Emi Kou, researcher at CNRS, France, was awarded the Silver medal.

  • The TYL Science Camp for Female High School Students is a joint program of the TYL and KEK Gender Equality Office, organised at KEK with the aim of encouraging young Japanese female students to pursue scientific studies and careers. It involves several activities, including introductory lectures on advanced science results, casual talks by graduate students majoring in science and engineering, visits of research facilities at KEK.The last session was organised at KEK, April 3-4, 2018, in the presence of two of the TYL Directors, Prof. Junji Haba of KEK and Dr. Marc Besançon of CEA, and included a French speaker, Dr. Nathalie Palanque-Delabrouille of CEA.   • On the 11th of October 2017, the Ambassador of France to Japan, His Excellency Laurent Pic and his party visited KEK Tsukuba campus to attend a ceremony of raising the French national flag at the KEKB Tsukuba Laboratory, commemorating the 24th nation participating in the Belle II experiment. Please see the details.
